"Sentimental Journey" Doris Day with the Les Brown band. Recorded Nov. 20, 1944.
Music by Les Brown and Ben Homer, lyrics by Bud Green.
If you try listening to this recording on a laptop and sit too close, you might experience muffled tones around the edges of voices, like Uncle Albert on Yellow Submarine, so sit back, or stand back, or, like me, putz around the house as you enjoy the memories this show is sure to bring.
Wall of Sound...guitar wonders, count 'em as you hear each one individually and together, on Eyes of the World. Very gentle, very rare Weather Report Suite. Bob Weir so nails El Paso I looked to see who from Nashville was guesting, and then again, just superb on Saturday Night. Truckin goes 30 MINUTES, and its so good, the band's beyond description.
Nice crowd ambiance here. Sounds like less than 100 people were there, what an amazing tape. Some very talented clappers with great rhythm, and not too much from them. Small amount of small talk, I love the joy in the guy who spills out "How ya doin' man?"; he is so happy to see that certain somebody, it makes you happy, too.
Some discussion in the preceding reviews about Sea Stones. Well, one of the times I was recently listening to this, my teen-age daughter came downstairs and asked me if this was something from my world music. I said sorta, more like a space jam. She replied it sounded very Sputnik. And it is! If you have ever seen that small gray orb with like the bright colored C-7 xmas lights, on display at the Smithsonian, I am sure you would agree: this Sea Stones is Very Sputnik.
Goodness that was good.
Thank you tapers and helpers, thank you master maker, thank you whoever saved and preserved this, and thank you all very much for sharing.
Subject: A great AUD that captures one of the less interesting "Seastones"
Subject: My god
The sound isn't just exactly perfect, there is a faint hiss, a hint of muddiness between the instrumental tracks... but it's sexier than the twirliest hippie chick you've ever dreamed of. Give it until around BEW / Half Step to warm up, and you'll be in heaven. A massive upgrade over the Weiner AUD, DO NOT MISS!
